Starting the Sewing Stroll Mini Wallet Series

Starting the Sewing Stroll Mini Wallet Series

I don’t know if it’s the fall season making me nostalgic, but I was reminiscing about the time I created the "Cute Card Case" pattern a few years ago. What looks like a really simple and easy project turned out to be one of the most challenging projects I faced while developing patterns. Normally, I would only do about two rounds of pattern sampling, but I ended up doing four rounds just to test the pattern. For some reason, the measurements would mysteriously change every time I sat down to sew, and I broke countless needles because the seam allowances were so thick. Anyone who sews knows the stress that comes with breaking a needle, right? It’s shocking, and you start worrying about whether the needle bar on your precious machine is bent! Haha.

Let me explain a bit more about what led to the creation of this pattern. During COVID, we had to wear masks, which meant I couldn’t wear makeup. As a result, I stopped carrying around big bags like I used to. I needed a card case that could hold only the essentials, so I searched online for various options. However, at that time, the fabric card wallets available simply didn’t provide enough friction and couldn't hold cards as securely as leather designs could. Nothing caught my eye. So, I started brainstorming a design that would snugly fit the cards to prevent them from falling out, while still being easy to sew. That’s how the "Cute Card Case" was born. Eventually, I even came up with a design similar to "Lulu" to better secure the cards, but I still think the Cute Card Case is an excellent design in that regard.

Back then, even though it was more of a hobby than a job, I went through a lot of emotional turmoil while making it. There were days when I got so frustrated with the fit not being right after hours of sewing and checking measurements that I threw my wallet on the desk and went out to eat something too sweet instead, haha. But it felt like all that hard work paid off when so many people loved this pattern. With all the positive comments and shares, when the views surpassed 10k, I decided to release the free PDF pattern with inch measurements through my YouTube channel. It became the first product I ever merchandised. This project kicked off my mini wallet series, which continues to this day. The "Cute Card Case" remains my most-viewed project on YouTube and is truly a cherished milestone in my sewing journey that helped shape where I am now.

When a sewing project hits a snag, I like to take a moment to reflect on it. It’s a lovely reminder that with a little perseverance, beautiful creations are just around the corner! I'm dedicated to bringing you fabulous patterns in the future! A big thank you to everyone who joined us on the sewing stroll – I hope your day is as delightful as your sewing projects! Happy stitching! 💕🧵✨
